Like a fool, I downloaded and installed the updates from Micro$oft... :(

    System:
    200mhz Pentium
    176meg ram
    Windows 98SE

It used to boot just fine. Now, whenever it boots up I get the following error messages and must hit "F1" to continue with the boot process:

404 - Parallel Port Address Conflict Detected
1155 - System Board Comm Port Address Assignment Conflict
611 - Primary Floppy Port Address Assignment Conflict

I appreciate any help the kind computer gurus can offer... :)

Sounds like an IRQ conflict. Are your IRQs set manually by the motherboard or automatically?

Must be automatic, since I've never had to set them!

Okay. Do this for me. Try disconnecting the floppy drive and booting the computer and tell me what happens...

It's definately a conflict but I can't imagine why installing latest windows updates would have done that? I don't doubt it though. If you look at your bios and take down all settings on paper, then reset it....it might reconfigure itself. I wouldn't try this though till you go through techie's trouble shooting first. If you go into control panel and then system and look at the devices tab, does anything have any ! marks in front of them?

Violet, I owe you a big, sloppy smoochie!! ;)

Somehow "Advanced Power Management" was added to my device list and it had a "!" on it. I deleted it from the hardware profile, rebooted, and all comes up normal once again!

Thank you, thank you, thank you...
