At the height of last year's anthrax situation, the USPS ignored its own 1999 policy that should have alerted them that something was amiss with the Bretwood facility that processed the Dashcle letter, and then the USPS issued a new policy on October 19th that it turned around and ignored for 2 more days.

I actually find it more worrisome that the USPS had an anthrax policy in place "years before" an actual attack occurred.

What should be of more concern is that disease samples are routinely mailed about the country by various organizations, and the fact that they have packaging standards and containment standards in place. Well, that and the fact that the previous containment standards were ignored when it was determined that the Daschle letter went through the Brentwood facility.

Good point. I forgot that it's routine to mail biologicals around the country. Should have been obvious the USPS would have plans in place to react to a containment breach.
