I don't recall going or doing anything weird but this morning my network connection pops up telling me it can't dial out (I use DSL, so phone is not even hooked up).

Then I look at my connections and WHOA! How did this happen?

This is spyware might want to check out some pages. Maybe adaware can get rid of it. Not sure.

    found this site

    http://spybot.eon.net.au/

mentions XXXDial on there. Might want to try their software to remove it.

I've seen this before only the poor fellow who this happened to wound up reloading the PC.

He claimed he signed up for nothing but some of the porn sites appear to create the dial-up and make it the primary internet connection if you open their web page at all.

Had you rebooted and attempted to access the internet my guess is your PC would have attempted to use the connection created by these porn operators.

What's the phone number behind that connection? My guess is a 900 number or something although 555-1212 is directory assistance in my area. Did you mask the real number Ethics ;)

    Scumbags.

So you installed that program and didn't remove it for you ?? hrmm ... maybe you'll be safe to just remove that connection from your networking and let it go. If you don't have a modem or its not plugged in you'll be safe anyway, but would be nice to get that crap off the system.

    Hi Ethics,
Did you downloaded the last version of Spybot?

If I am not mistaken xxxdialer is one of the Spybot's targets :)

My son gets the dialer all the time. What happens: some of the porn sites ask you to click on a picture to download a movie e.g. xxx.avi or something like that. You double click it to launch it and it asks you to save it. That triggers the installation. It's something like that.

Anyway, it is not difficult to remove as it does nothing to the registry. Just delete all the files, the dialup setting it installed and restore your homepage in your browser. Run your antivirus program scan and AdAware to search for anything you missed.

Be more careful when you click on those "free xxx movies"! :)

Man, I am pissed. Forget this small annoying spyware, I am pissed something got by me on MY PC (not my daughter's or wife's). I did update Spybot and Spybot was activated AFTER I made the above post. It picked up cookies and crap but not this sucker.

Thanks Claire, I will definitely make a post in the forums for SpyBot. Not cool, not cool at all.

As for porn? In all honesty, and trust me I have no qualms revealing I was searching for some, I haven't even had TIME for porn, less anything else.

I'd hate to think this came from conventional site?

    Misu Hey, I saw that.

Ethics, stupid question - have you been to people's personal websites? Like people who keep journals and a webcam? Sometimes these 'cam people' will fill up their sites with hidden spyware and crap, to make money as referrers to porn sites. I've found A LOT of stuff on my system because I've visited people's personal sites. It's gotten to the point that it's just not worth going to half the sites on the web.
