A new ruleset update for TrojanHunter is available. The update
    contains 4604 detection rules.

The easiest way to install this ruleset update is to run the
TrojanHunter LiveUpdate utility. If you want to install the update
manually you can do so by downloading the file

    http://www.misec.net/rulefiles/3xx-2003-01-20.zip

and extracting its contents to the TrojanHunter program directory.
(When updating manually, your update date as seen in the Rule
Statistics dialog and in the Status Bar (in advanced mode) will not be
updated. You will have to manually change the date in the thupdate.txt
    file to correct this.)

Note: This ruleset update requires TrojanHunter 3.0.

TH 3 is a major upgrade but is free to registered users of 2..5. You will, however, have to get a new key, per these instructions:

Note to registered users: TrojanHunter 3.0 is a free upgrade to all registered TrojanHunter users. The program uses a new licensing system, so you will need to download a new license file. Using our new eCommerce system you can automatically retrieve your new license file via e-mail. Simply visit http://www.misec.net/support/licensefile/
    and follow the instructions.
No info at the site about whethert can be installed over the old version or if the old version must be uninstalled before installing the new.

I had to uninstall TH2.54 and then install TH3.0
Then I asked for my new license at the mentionned adress.I received it immediately and TH3.0 is working
    smoothly now.

I played it safe and also uninstalled 2.54 before installing 3.0.

I also got the new registration file in a couple of minutes.

    Alas, not so fine, Claire.

Have you run TH 3.0? Have any problems? I have problems. It won't run properly.

It starts and goes for a while, finishes working thru files on C: partition and then hangs up shortly after starting through D:-- stops responding, seems to be doing something but never moves beyond a specific file. And it will not not stop when I click on stop, and Conr-Alt-Del shows it "not responding." First time it happened I deleted the file in question to see if that was the problem. Ran again and got hung in same way at a different place (but on same partition and in same directory). Uninstalled and reinstalled, got same results. Plus, when I shut it down, whole system hangs and I have to use reset button.

    Puzzling.
Compounding this -- I upgraded SpyBot--Search and Destroy the other day and, you may recall, when trying to get updated profiles got message that there was an "error retrieving uodate information." I uninstalled that, reinstalled and ran the update and this time it worked fine. Now there is another profile update and I tried to get it and got the same error message again.

    Arghh!
Harris' law of computers. All software is a PITA.:)

    What OS are you using?

When you do a full scan on what file does TH hang on?

Running Win 98SE. First time it hung on Startuplist.exe -- a little utility that lists all the programs that are started at boot time, from all of the obscure places where they may be hidden besides the statup folder. (Registry, etc. An amazingly long list.) So I dumped that file to see if it were the problem. Then it hung on, of all things, TrojanHunter.exe. :)

Did it a few times with each, BTW, with reboots between trials.

I take it you are not having problems.

Could it be a mangled download? But the install of TH goes with no problems.

TH3.0 is indeed running flawlessly with me.
Robert could you try this.Open Trojan Hunter and go to options.Uncheck the box"scanupx-packed files" and try to make a full scan.
    I hope this will work.
    Let me know the results.

    Good Luck:)

I'll be darned. Made the change and it ran fine, did full scan and no problems.

Thank you much, Claire. You truly are an angel . :)

Got and installed the update -- 3.01 -- and it does seem to have fixed the bug.

    It has indeed.
Caution: if you use advanced mode and heuristic detection enabled you could have some false positives.
Before deleting any files please ask in order to avoid problems

    Just my humble suggestion;) :)
