[trivia] What's up in the Libyan desert?

While trying to locate the Egyptian crater with Google Earth (I just LOVE Google Earth!) that ethic's posted about, I came across these rather bizzare objects in the desert in Libya about 100 miles west of Egypt.

The entire group of objects is about 18 miles across. Each circular object is about .65 miles across (3,432 ft) across.

Take a look also at the close ups -- some appear incomplete, and there are other hexagonal structures...

What do you think they are?

No way, really? That would certainly explain the green color. But where does the water come from?

They are using a central pivot irrigation system.
