    Steve Is that it, then?

What do Martin Luther King, Jr. and the orginal Star Trek series have in common?

    Hint: Yes, it's that obvious.

Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) was thinking of quitting the show first season, he advised she stay due to being a positive role model.

Seven minutes until the correct answer; a slow night on GA!

Yes, he even pointed out that she was fourth in command of the ship. When she verified that, the next day, his comments made her stay on the show. The next season, she got a contract and it's history from there.

If schools would teach little tidbits like Martin Luther King, Jr. watching Star Trek on TV, history might be more interesting to kids. If they understood what it meant for an icon of civil rights to urge a previously unknown black female actress to stay on a series that was already faltering in its first year, just because her mere presence meant something, maybe kids would understand a little better what civil rights are all about.
