We could eliminate all murder, too. Just legalize it, problem solved! No more crime! In fact, tax it. Any crime can be made not a crime, and then of course crime will drop. The absurdity of the "legalize and tax" argument is destroyed when you simply examine the effect on society. What would happen to society if we just said "Okay, bath salts are legal and will remain legal from now until forever"? Poof, no more bath salts crime. Drug crime reduced to zero. Think all our problems will just go away? Hardly. They've just begun. The taxes we collect from alcohol haven't solved alcoholism. The taxes we collect from alcohol have not solved the entirety of the problem we have from drunken driving, homelessness from alcoholism, medical issues from liver disease, overdosing, binge drinking by collegians, underage intoxication, drinking on the job and OSHA issues, mental illness, a whole host of issues simply because we have one substance that is legal and easily obtained. Not only have we legalized this substance, but we've barely made an effort to contain it, as any high school party will show you. Again... MORE PEOPLE DIE EVERY YEAR IN ALCOHOL RELATED CRASHES THAN DIED DURING THE ENTIRE VIETNAM WAR. Now some people want to take more powerful substances and make THEM legal, arguing that the taxes on it will help us, solve all the problems, and we'll be able to treat the addicts. Bullshit. Just... bullshit. Decriminalizing weed, I get that. Legalization of all those substances, and then thinking society can be treated and all will be okay? Never going to happen.
