I hadn't realized that the Chinese were so close to launching a manned spaceflight.

I welcome the addition of another country into space.
We [the US] need a jolt to get us back on track.
After the moon landings, we have done very little in the last thirty years in this area. The shuttle was a great accomplishment and the space lab is an ongoing project that will benefit man in the long run but the focus of generating public interest in space travel has waned to the point of indifference.

While I fear the Chinese accomplishment in the sense that they are becoming a force to reckon with, I welcome any country that can stimulate interest in this area.

So they would be like 40 years behind in technology rather than 50 years?
