Giada is hot!!!! The perfect combo of cook/hot/loaded family. Racheal is annoying. My wife loves her but everytime I hear "how good is that" it's like nails on a chalk board. They really slutted her up last year and she even did some posing for a calender. Doesn't work for me. I'm sure you can google it. As far as reciepes I have a ton of cookbooks with about 5 dogeared favorites. If I really need something exotic I use cooks.com. It's your typical cyber cookbook fueld by posters favorites. The problem I have with a lot of cooking shows is where we live I can't run down to the corner ethnic market and get the ingredients they call for. I'm 30 minutes from chorizio. Fresh herbs around here are pretty limited outside of my garden in the Summer. Bloomington has a couple of nice markets but most of the time you have to improvise. I can't get lamb or veal without ordering it at our local store. I can get 10 different kinds of bologna but if I have a hankerin' for lambchops they're an additional 30 miles away.
Enter me into the "Rachael Ray is annoying" camp. Can't stand watching her. Granted, the last TV chef I watched with any regularity was Justin Wilson when he was still alive. But, my all time favorite TV chef?
Rachael ray is a good looking woman. I probably wouldn't want to meet her in real life, unless her mouth was glued shut. :zipit: Anyone can do a cooking show. Probably not a good one, but it can me entertaining...but if you laugh, you are going to hell!! The Merrill Howard Kalin Show pt 1 <a href="http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.addToProfileConfirm&videoid=6415378&title=The Merrill Howard Kalin Show pt 1"/a>
I'll second the "Giada is hot" comment! That stinks about not being able to get good ingredients, Dewitt. If we didn't have such a large hispanic population in this area of Pennsylvania, I'd probably be in the same boat. At least there's a Wegman's less than 30 minutes down the interstate, in Allentown. That helps. But, yeah, it does really stink when you see a great-sounding recipe and just can't find the ingredients.
Rachel Ray is a total BITCH. She is obnoxious, fake and rude. Her rudeness is beyond is the worst I've seen in the entire history of television. I came along shortly after television made its debut and there has never been anyone that is more rude on any set that I've ever seen Kathy Lee is second place. And there is no third, fourth, fifth, etc. Rachel will not shut that loud obnoxious mouth of hers, long enough for any of the guests to finish a sentence. She exhibits signs of spotlight addiction. .. HAS TO BE THE CENTER OF ATTENTION AT ALL TIMES. She constantly cracks corny jokes and laughs at herself (which is terrible enough), but worse.... she interrupts other people that are actually saying something interesting and valuable to do it!!! She is completely convinced that no one else has anyone to offer but herself and that the audience and viewers worship her and only her. It's as if she believes that everyone is in love with her and cannot wait until that get to hear her loud mouth yelling out corn ball cliche's and stupid... so called "jokes". She is is a complete attention addict who I wish would stay the hell out of Austin, Texas. The likes of Rachel Ray is actually what is causing Austin to lose it's charm. The cool people that made Austin what it has been since the late 60s and 70s.... can't stand the fake commercialism that Rachel Ray represents. She is the most annoying TV personality in history BAR NONE!!!! And the person, Rachel Ray cannot have a single thread of authenticity or integrity or she wouldn't sell herself has a rude, obnoxious, inconsiderate, UNORIGINAL (every idea that she claims is hers has been stolen from someone else. We learned things in 4-H Club cooking class, in the mid-60s that Rachel claims her "her signature ideas and tips". the only thing Rachel has invented are stupid corn stuffed expressions like "YUMMO !!!!".. The only thing she says that is real is when she sticks that figure form "L" on her head and hollers "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSER!!" I actually thought her very first little show about traveling meals for $10, was pretty useful. Her head wasn't completely swollen yet. She simply cannot handle her success with gracefulness. A real star is polite, giving others a chance to bring their contribution to the spotlight, without feeling threatened. She is like a jealous child that is threatened that her parents will notice other children.
LOL - Gordon Ramsay, some of those shows were a hoot. If you only have time to watch one episode in your lifetime then watch this one - the infamous Amy's Baking Company. And to top it off - the return to Amy's Bakery
I watched the scenes in the restaurant during the opening credits. That was enough for me. One thing for sure, IMO. If someone is feeling down and thinking of themselves as losers that then they should just watch these type of shows...(cooking saving restaurants, saving bars, saving business, etc.) Nevertheless, some of them, at times can be pretty hilarious. Ya just have to be in the right mood to watch.
You just have to cringe though when you listen to the owners say the following...."Well we retired and we thought it would be kind of cool to own a restaurant, so we put spent our entire life savings on this..." Usually followed by the host saying something like "Do you have any prior experience in the restaurant business?" "Oh no.. but I've always enjoyed cooking...." Usually followed by me screaming at the TV... "WTF you idiot!"
They are not near as fun as the fixing up the house shows such as Property Brothers. Every house runs into very expensive unexpected needs. Hell, I knew about house inspections before I bought my first house.
The only episode that i have watched was the one where Ramsay goes to a Bangladeshi's restaurant in NY if i am not wrong. And he wrecks havoc in his kitchen. But yes the restaurant was needing some good help.
Side question, seems like folks are well versed in cooking shows and now I know which one NOT to watch... which one do people recommend?
