    ...there's no mystery why China is laying claims to wide swaths of the South China Sea. With inflation, unstable banking, and the national departure from cheap, economical manufacturing, it's only chance is to become a power player.

    Unless it happens to discover tons of gold and diamonds inside Chinese territory, of course.

    Or that of another nearby nation.
