Pronounced "keeflee". My great aunt used to make these every year at Christmas. Very time consuming, but absolutely delicious.

    6 cups flour

    1/2 cup sugar

    2 yeast cakes

1 whole egg and yolks of 4 eggs (save whites for filling)

    1lb butter

    1 cup milk

    2 tablespoons vanilla

    1lb walnut meats, chopped fine

2 cups of sugar for filling

Mix 3 cups of flour with sugar and yeast. Warm butter and milk, add vanilla and add to dry ingredients with electric mixer. Add eggs and rest of flour. Cover with damp cloth and chill overnight.

    Next day:

Divide dough into 6 portions. Roll VERY thin with powdered sugar (half flour-half sugar). Cut in squares, spoon filling in corner and roll up in a half moon. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove, sprinkle with powdered sugar. Best when chilled.

Filling: Beat egg whites, add 2 cups of sugar and the chopped walnuts.
