I didn't know pharmacies could do this

    Steve Is that it, then?

My prescription is supposed to be on automatic renewal; it's a service offered by the pharmacy. They call/fax the doctor for each month's renewal and then notify me to come pick it up. For whatever reasons, they've had problems lately so I ran out and went there yesterday to find out what if I needed to do anything. It seems to be just a communication problem but since I ran out, they gave me five days' worth of pills to hold me over until they can get things straightened out

This is just a maintenance med for high cholesterol so not a big "controlled substance" issue, but I just was unaware that pharmacies could dispense like that.

Yes, they can. My wife has had this done for her a few times.

Yep. Especially for conditions that are long term, such as high cholesterol. I've even seen it for controlled medications when there's been a communication break down between the pharmacy and doctor.
