But do the Turkish Cypriots agree? And, if not, then why should the island be united?

    Stanley,

According to the article you refer to, it is the TURKISH Cypriots who rally for unification. So, where is the problem?

    Greetings

    Leopoldo

P.S. And Cyprus nowadays should no longer go under Africa & Middle East but Europe. :)

The Turkish cypriots are facing an economically difficult situation and are tired of their political isolation and see that reconciliation with the Greek-side as a way to end that isolation...
If the island is admitted to the EU it would entail a lot of economic benefits for the people. Many Turkish Cypriots leave the island because of the bad economic and political situation.... If Cyprus is admitted, it would mean the EU would be essentially in the Middle East....
