This reddit thread started with a post "I still have dead best friend on my Xbox live friends list. He's been dead for a year now and I send him occasional party invites and pretend like nothing happened."

He was in the Army and I still tear up when I see that his status is and always will be Offline • /r/AdviceAnimals

The resulting thread, the usual reddit deluge, contains lots of similar stories. One category that stands out: given their ages, a lot of young men who died in various recent conflicts were gamers. They live on as members of friends and loved ones clans, guilds, friend's lists, etc. Major feels.

Some like Sean Smith, aka VileRat from Eve Online fame were murdered.

He still has a huge impact to the playerbase there based on his legacy.

I still have Leo's characters on several of my friends lists as well.
