    I thought Japan did this years ago?

    I believe Japan (as well as Germany) is still "testing" the concept. This appears to be the first "commercial" application.

    Damn! The Chinese kicked ass then. Is it safe, though? Or is this Soviet Union way of doing things. Throw a new technology out in to the real world (think Subs) and let their own people make sacrifices.

    Japan and Germany did not achieve the projects they had because according to their studies the "magnetic levitation " train would not be economically succesfull.

    That is correct, however Japan did build a full working scale model, I believe it was half scale.
