Cuba is in dire straits

    I don't get it - even after the failure of communism, after the failure of other forms of socialism, people are still extolling the virtues of Cuba. Yes, the rest of Latin America isn't doing so well, but at least northern Mexico and Chile are doing OK, so that's a partial vindication of capitalism. And, as I've written before in articles, if the Asians can do it, so can the Latin Americans, though a bit of luck and help would be needed.

    Costa Rica is in better shape than any country in Latin America, by far, including Mexico.

    Latin America's poor economies aren't teh fault fo capitalism, but instead corrupt governments. They have the resources as well. Were the governments run better, they would be very prosperous, indeed.
