DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - A statement attributed to al-Qaida threatened more attacks in New York and Washington unless America stops supporting Israel and converts to Islam, an Arab TV reporter who received the unsigned document said Saturday.

Yosri Fouda, correspondent for the satellite station Al-Jazeera, told The Associated Press he received the six-page document on Wednesday. That was a day after the TV station broadcast an audiotape purportedly made by Osama bin Laden (news - web sites).

Fouda, who is known for good contacts within al-Qaida, would only say that the statement came from his sources with the group. But he insisted he was certain it came from the terrorist movement's leadership.

Fouda, speaking by telephone from London, said the statement called on Americans to stop supporting Israel and other governments that "oppress" Muslims or face more attacks. The statement also called on Americans to convert to Islam, he said.

Fouda quoted the statement as saying: "Stop your support for Israel against the Palestinians, for Russians against the Chechens ... for corrupt leaders in our countries ... (and) leave us alone or expect us in Washington and New York."

This statement would be frightening, except that we all know our crack INS is on the case and the National Guard is stationed along our borders. Sleep tight America, safe and secure in the knowledge that our government is on the case. :(

Dan, you are a man who can laugh in the face of fear. That is a gift.

On the other hand, some wacko (as yet unidentified as actually being
anybody we should take seriously) makes an inflammatory statement
and we even pay attention? The correct way to handle this (as Dan
so rightly pointed out) is to laugh in their face.

I think we all know some degenerate will pull something off. Whether
it is a homegrown political version like Tim McVeigh or some religious
fanatic like James C. Kopp, the pain we all feel is not lessened whether
the animal is our own or someone born elsewhere.

The issue is the same. We need to learn to all live together while each
of us removes the impediments to that process. We are doing a pretty
good job (with some exceptions) here. Many other countries are doing
what they are able to but the fact remains, we probably can't catch
    them all.

The real crime is for us to forget who the real criminal is and to target
the wrong people for no legitimate purpose.

All of us convert to Islam?!

(I know normally we don't post joke Images in these forums, but I'm making a special exception)

    Dan,

Perhaps we should try some of the "State of the Art" immigration
    policies used in other countries.

This policy would allow for closer scrutiny of every applicant as
well as ensuring a continous flow of qualified employees willing
to pay for the priveledge of volunteering for the job.

Enhanced tax revenue and motivated Federal employees, talk
    about a win/win situation.

Actually Ken, this State of the Art Immigration Policy makes far more sense...pity much of our misguided citizenry would start screaming racism if we actually did something as sensible as this.

I'm sorry Coot, it was meant as a joke.

I just can't seem to bring myself to use
    smiley faces and dancing bananas.
