Are we prone to war?

In the year (or years) before 9/11, everyone was talking about the upcoming confrontation with China. And that incident with the US plane colliding with the Chinese one generated a lot of controversy, from both sides of the emerging Cold War.

    Then 9/11 happened.

Now, that plane-collision incident is just a long memory away, and China is seen as an ally in the war against terrorism.

So, if the world did not have a war against terrorism, it might have an emerging new Cold War, where China is seen as the upstart challenger. Certainly, its economy is seen that way.

Does this mean, then, that there's something in human nature that will constantly lead us to war? What do you think?
