Amazon quietly drops encryption support from Fire devices | ZDNet

Seems Amazon is removing the ability to encrypt your data on their devices. Their reasoning?

    I say bullshit.

I see two reasons for doing this. 1) It allows them to retrieve information from the device (think marketing), and 2) It removes the barriers that Apple is trying to keep in place with the FBIs request for them to develop a way to break into an iPhone.

While this may not be a feature that most use on an Amazon device, I certainly don't think it should be an option that Amazon removes.

Needless to say, I'm not sure I'll be purchasing or recommending any type of Amazon device anytime soon, if at all.

Encrypt or DRM? Oh that's right our fight to privacy is subjunctive to an IP owner's right to their IP rights.
