    Interesting read. Good stuff. Regarding two points. First the coffee. I was in the military and drank military coffee. No worries about the airline coffee problem. Regarding the name tag for the understandably distraught dog in the cargo hold--good idea. Not necessary for the cat though. He not distraught. He's just pissed about the situation and is thinking someone's going to pay for this.

    I never drank coffee in the Navy, but I remember watching my shipmates drink that sludge on the midwatch. The coffee that had been sitting on the burner since dinner. You could (almost) pour it into a styrofoam cup (if the coffee didn't dissolve the cup), stick a spoon into it and let it cool down. You could then peel the cup away and have a "coffee popsicle."

    Either that, or it would dissolve the spoon.
