It's pretty hard not to read the Tech rags lately and not see the latest news where the courts have banned Samsung from selling their new tablet in the US. And a California judge has upheld the the ban (as if that's surprising). So what patents did Apple sue Samsung over? I Programmer took a look and wrote up a fairly condemning piece. Not only is this a condemnation on Apple, but the entire patent process. It's readily apparent that the morons in the Patent office are totally clueless with the new technologies coming out, and tech companies (Apple especially) are taking advantage of that. And instead of letting the products speak for themselves through innovation, Apple is now attempting to squelch any competition through the courts. That's just plain wrong, especially when the patents are so overly broad, that nobody could ever hope to come up with something new. The existing patent system is horribly flawed, and the companies who take advantage of that system are equally flawed. Apple is one of the biggest idea stealers out there, and they have a lot of nerve suing other companies over patents that are so broad, it's impossible to not infringe on it. Apple has become one of the biggest patent trolls out there. And the only way they'll stop is when people stop buying their products in protest.
You better get ready to kick Google, Motorola, Microsoft, Nokia, etc. to the curb while you're at it. Seems like patent lawsuits are the new pastime of the electronics industry. The money being spent on lawsuits and buying up patents is staggering.
When Apple itself has admitted to stealing ideas and is the most prolific instigator of patent lawsuits, crying about others who had no intention of firing back until Apple tried to corner the market through the courts is rich indeed.
What I think is funny is someone for years saying they will never own anything Apple, doesn't own anything Apple, does nothing but bitch about Apple, and then saying they are going to kick anything Apple to the curb. Gee...what a threat that is. LOL And for the record, no, I don't agree with all their patent fights and think they are a waste of time. However, until someone in our gut-less government does something to change the current system, we'll continue to see Apple (and everyone else) continue to fight these senseless battles.
Looks like Samsung certainly had a bad case of iPhone envy. I'm not sure if that hurts them in court, but it's good for a chuckle. http://gizmodo.com/5932479/samsung-emails-reveal-the-companys-blatant-iphone-jealousy
