Oh goodie.. I know absolutely nothing about Ryan, which means that I can rest assured within 48 hours the DNC will be able to tell me with 100% accuracy every thing this guy has done in his life from pulling pigtails in 3rd grade right up to not reporting that the cashier at Dunkin Donuts undercharged him $.07 on a bagel/coffee combo in 2010 and he had the nerve to not fess up and report the error and pay up, right along with every last detail of nannys, maids, carwash jockeys, auto mechanics, school transcript and tax return he's ever had contact with.

There's an excellent, objective profile of him in the August 6th New Yorker. For example, there will be mention that he was voted "biggest brownnoser" in high school. The New Yorker article points out that he threw himself into school work and extracurricular activities after finding his father dead of a heart attack.

Yes, I would hoping I would be wrong.

The staunch conservatives not pleased with Romney will be happy with Ryan. Unfortunately the staunch conservatives were going to vote for anyone but Obama anyway no matter what. (Even as they hurt him by continually publicly criticize him. Right or wrong in the criticism when a candidates own people are speaking negative about him it hurts the candidate in the voters hearts if the criticism has any affect at all.

As for the rest of the folks:

The Independents are going to be split on Ryan as a choice. Mostly just the fiscal hardliners will like him.

As far as Romney as a stand alone, a large segments of the independents have been swaying dramatically over the past months or so. As of about a month ago in the polls Romney had finally been favored over Romney in several key polls of certain key areas. In the last week to 10 days Obama has in the vast majority of polls sort of steamrolled forward and past Romney.

Many of those undecided or slightly favoring Romney will with Ryan's selection go to Obama as Romney continues to appear to stumble thanks to genuine gaffes, to made up gaffes or overplayed gaffes by Obama's MSM team. That same MSM is for the most part going to come down on Ryan's budget or fiscal ideas as impractical and not only doable but in the process will throw grandma, grandpa, and the poor under the bus. All that will be favored by Romney and Ryan's plans will be the selfish greedy "rich." Rich just like Rich boy doesn't pay his fair share of taxes and only cares about the rich. (That's the image being sold and it will be reinforced overall with the addition of Ryan.)

I said eight years ago here at GA that Bush would beat Kerry in their extremely tight to the wire race because in the end except for those with the strongest party brand or ideology would vote for the person they personally or emotionally liked the most on the gut level, and Bush was that man.

On the personal, not political or ideology factor Obama is that man compared to Romney. That conclusion is confirmed in black and white numbers by the polls that have consistently shown that majority of the country think the country by a wide margin is heading in the wrong direction, the economy is far and away the key issue that trumps all others combined, and that Obama's presidential performance has the past two years gotten consistently bad rating or a low approval rating by traditional standards. Yet...he has consistently in the face of all that maintained a high personal approval rating.

Obama on the personal level is a tremendous speaker that comes off in style as fluid, sincere, genuine, and who connects with people not all ready committed or on the fence. (Connects is the key word.) He on the surface a very intelligent and effective communicator or speaker. He has a great family. He comes across as young, vigorous, relaxed, confident, and a "natural."

Romney comes across, as rehearsed, unnatural and slightly but definitely stiff or uncomfortable and even though so slight or small consistently when speaking stumbles on words or sentences, and everything he says sounds like hack speech or practiced rehearsed sound byte. Obama comes across telling it with a relaxed conversation style delivery. Even though it is truly and genuinely a speech it comes across as a heart to heart from a true believer. Internally the swing votes from the undecided a month ago are going given everything going to feel better about Obama and go with Obama.

Obama will win four more years. Than in 2016 if nothing between now and then dramatically changes for Rubio he will be the Republican nominee and probably next President of the United States. In the meantime hope to heaven that neither Scalia, Thomas, Alito, Roberts, nor Kennedy leave the court. Right now we are fiscally screwed. If he court changes as alluded to then our society will be screwed too.

The best that can be hope for is the GOP will retain the house with a comfortable margin and also capture the Senate to at least mitigate Obama's influence.

I like Ryan. I'm looking forward to his debate with that babbling fool Biden.

If Ryan debates anything like he talks in his speeches, he will be telling lies, lies, and more lies.

"Fact: While Ryan tried to pin the downgrade of the United States’ credit rating on spending under President Obama, the credit rating was actually downgraded because Republicans threatened not to raise the debt ceiling.

Fact: While Ryan blamed President Obama for the shut down of a GM plant in Janesville, Wisconsin, the plant was actually closed under President George W. Bush. Ryan actually asked for federal spending to save the plant, while Romney has criticized the auto industry bailout that President Obama ultimately enacted to prevent other plants from closing.

Fact: Though Ryan insisted that President Obama wants to give all the credit for private sector success to government, that isn't what the president said. Period.

Fact: Though Paul Ryan accused President Obama of taking $716 billion out of Medicare, the fact is that that amount was savings in Medicare reimbursement rates (which, incidentally, save Medicare recipients out-of-pocket costs, too) and Ryan himself embraced these savings in his budget plan." http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/

By the time Obama was in any position to do anything, it was too late as the plant was already mostly closed down. The plant's closure was announced in June 2008.

Here are some more of Ryan's lies: http://www.juancole.com/2012/08/top-ten-repeated-paul-ryan-lies.html

    Paul Ryan's convention speech heralds a post-factual age: http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/p...ns-convention-speech-heralds-post-factual-age

They have to keep up with these lies. If they tell them enough, some people might believe they are true.

The post factual age began eons ago for politicians and only true believers would level the charge at the opposing party while failing to hold their own to the same standards.

Then he shouldn't have promised to save it. That's the whole point Ryan was making. Obama has made tons of promises that he simply has not kept.

The truth is in business, nothing lasts forever. GM will someday completely close down. So will Microsoft, Apple, Ford, someday... To prop up failing companies with tax money for the sole purpose of saving jobs does nothing but prolong the inevitable, and put yourself in debt. The best thing is to simply let capitalism work. When it does, you get "out with the old, in with the new." It's natural selection.

I mean, what would happen if, say, Edsel had been propped up and propped up and propped up, because a number of people would have been put out of work? Would they be competitive? I don't think so. And we'd be carrying the tax burden for it. And why not prop up, say, Steak and Ale? They recently went out of business. How about CompUSA? They went out of business, and a lot of people lost their jobs. Why GM?

And now GM is in financial trouble again. Reports are they will need another bailout sometime in the next few years. Adios GM. You weren't competitive, and you died along with so many other companies before you.

Oh, by the way, I hear that Romney and Ryan are planning on only lowering taxes on the top 52% of wage earners. Those bastards. Never thinking of the poor. What will the bottom 48% do, having to pick up the slack of the well-to-do?

Domino effect. Ford and Chrysler rely on the same tier 3 suppliers that GM does. If GM goes, tier 3 suppliers close, causing a ripple effect on Ford and Chrysler. Domestic auto companies don't employ the same number of people as they once did, but the people are paid well and able to circulate their money back into the economy.

Same thing with every other company I quoted, dude. There is a rubber band effect for every. single. company. So why wasn't Steak and Ale bailed out? I'll tell you why... Because of donation money. Steak and Ale employees don't donate to political election campaigns. It's corruption, dude. Political and union, and you're using my tax money to prop up a failing company. I do not approve.

If GM went bye bye, the automotive demand isn't going to automatically dry up. Those suppliers will have more demand from the other auto manufacturers. It's not a zero sum balance sheet.
