So a citizen-per-week got to post from Sweden's official Twitter account as a way to promote tourism. I guess it was only a matter of time before some upstanding citizen evinced an acute concern for, you know, the Joos! http://mashable.com/2012/06/12/sweden-twitter/
To me this is more about ignorance of human beings than about anti-semitism. Whomever thought this was a great idea is an idiot to the highest degree possible.
Yes, it's ignorance in spades. It's why I don't get involved in Twitter and why I can seldom finish reading the "comments" after most news articles. It gets downright depressing! Do people realize that there's really no such thing as a "pure" race? After six years of working with genetic genealogy, that is something that really jumps out and hits me on the head. I have both Jewish and African ancestry. Granted it is waaaaaaaay back in ancient times and isn't the dominant ancestry (British), but it is there, and it doesn't bother me one bit. In fact, I find it interesting! Can you imagine how upset Hitler would be today, were he to take a Y-DNA test?
If there were never any group of people known as Jews what would all of the haters of Jewish or Jews focused their hate toward or on? Both the haters of the past and the ones currently around.
That's a question I've asked myself too. Who knows who they'd pick, but I'm certain it wouldn't take them long to find a replacement.
Yeah, I know. I just don't have a lot of time to follow Twitter et al., regardless of whether the content is worth following.
Its a scary topic isnt it. I have always been very nervous of expressing my views on Judaism, Israel and the holocaust. Only because i simply dont want to offend. Even the word "Jews" has horrendous connotations. I think the Swedish government had honourable intentions opening their Twitter account to random citizens. Because Sweden is trying to follow a line of allowing their citizens to be responsible compassionate mature citizens and not be a Police state of monitoring. I like the ideology. I like the ideology alot. But as you have all identified in the real world and in 2012, no we are not that advanced yet. Maybe in another 200 years. Maybe the young Twitter needs to do a little reading on the horrors of the holocaust.
The world of PC. Ah yes. I made a new friend recently. She is Italian. Her first name is Guilia pronounced Julia. In Italy where I spent some time Guilia is a common name and those with that name are often called by the shorten version of that name which sounds like "Jew." In Italy the Jewish PC or PC in general is on a different level or marches to a different drummer.
