Yeah, I completely understand that, and it's nothing I would want to be involved with.

I'd be happy if enough of us could contribute enough to let the site stay open, including allowing those who don't contribute to have free access, but I can see that isn't going to happen.

So best wishes to everybody. It's been fun. I hope perhaps I'll see some of you on other sites. :)

I'll see you all around the innerwebz, I'm sure.

Thanks for all the fun, Leon and Co.!

    Out here,

    SM

I think the hangout is live videoconferencing with up to 10 people. I won't be joining that. Right now we don't have any separate sections within GA, but I suppose we could make them if we all agreed on what they'd be. For example a circle called GA-Society and Culture, GA-Ricks Place, etc. I can live with whatever is at G+, including the present setup.

Good points, Allene. Currently I don't discriminate. You are all just friends.

It might be good for some segregation for those who do not wish to see the 100 updated pics of my pets. hehe.

It's been a great place to add balance to a mind that has a tendency to focus on small details.
A nice way to remember that there are real people who's opinion may be different.

Although a bit distracting... I drifted away from my interest in Cydonia and/or radar mapping of distant planets.
Heck, if the face on Mars was an inflatable plastic shape of course the radar would see the flat field beneath it...
But that was Global Crisis, and Ethics asked me to join GA anyway.

I remember when a TV commercial featured a guy named Leon trying to get a rack of computers up to his nth floor apartment (an ad for a hosting company) and I wondered where they got the character from.

To all, God Bless, stay well, and thanks.

I honestly thought this was another one of Leon's elaborate pranks. I guess it was a defense mechanism from denial. What can I say that hasn't been said? Just, "Wow!" What a ride this has been with too many good - and not-so-good - people to list and acknowledge!

This has been an epic forum. GA had a place to vent any thought or emotion. It's been a place to express ideas and thoughts and have them critically analyzed. We could come here to laugh, cry, rant, listen, teach, learn, tease, be teased, be humbled, inspired and make friends! Wow! I'm at a loss for words!

I wish we could end it together with a live band and fireworks! But we'll have to settle for the last one out to turn off the lights.

God speed and God bless you all! I thank you all for everything! I hope to find you again in G+ (just waiting for the invite kindly offered by Fio.)

Seems like the invite is an easy start but what I had to do was "create a new circle" which I first called GA Circle but later edited to Global Affairs.

Then I can drag a contact directly into that circle, or search using name or e-mail and it will find all the people that contain the search term.
It let me add Ethics without an e-mail address, but there are 10 Fiona Campbell people, so I don't know which is the right one.

Those of you who want to add me to your GA or equivalent circle, my e-mail there is 745gkn@gmail.com

(the exposure for this e-mail ID post is about 30 days if Ethics isn't joking with us)

    I haven't tried a non-gmail address yet.

If you'd like to be in my GA circle please send me an e-mail from your gmail address.

I don't want to end up like congressman Weiner!

P.S. When I google "Global Affairs" I get a lot of high-brow stuff, college curriculums and the like, so I would expect the domain name to have become valuable.

A test message will go out to 5 lucky GA members shortly, then I need sleep ;-)

I guess I didn't rename it, I clicked something and got the thread about the two fat kids.

Now if I could figure out how to post there...

Trying to add people to G+ is somewhat frustrating...I don't know everyone's name or email. I managed to get a few by stalking Bob and Leon's circles but couldn't find everyone. If you get notification I added you, my name is Steve Dunlap, email I'm using for this is Stiofan2011@gmail.com

Thank Misu for sending the invite so fast!

I don't do social networking so I may be pretty silent on this thing. We'll see how it works.

You came up as a suggested friend (James L., right?), so I added you to my GA circle, too. :)

Yeesh. I go away for four days and see what happens..... I don't even know what to say that hasn't already been said. I guess I'll see y'all on G+. Still hasn't sunk in yet.

By the way, I'd be glad to contribute some $$ if there's any chance of keeping this place going.

Thank you Leon and Tom (and the rest of the staff) for doing such a great job for so many years. I'll miss y'all and youse other regular members too!

I have no idea what this G+ stuff is other than I'm pretty sure you mean Google+. I understand it's not a forum, but is there some way to continue sort of like a forum? Like somebody posts a topic and then anybody can reply, and the replies are threaded? Ordinarily I wouldn't be interested in it but I'll make the effort to adapt if I can continue discussing with the interesting people I've met on this forum. Perhaps somebody could explain how that works...

It's a place to keep in touch if people choose to. If someone posts about politics or some social stuff, the rest are free to respond, of course.

It's basically like that, but you create your own "Global Affairs" as a Google+ circle, Then you put GA people into that circle and you have yourself a GA forum with threaded discussions. What you don't get are all of the forum categories, forums, and sub-forums of a full-blown bb system such as IP Board.
