DISMAL employment numbers for May this morning. Was expected to gain 150K jobs, only 69K were gained. What's more is that numbers for April were revised frm 115K gain to 77K gain. Unemployment rate got up to 8.2%.

    Is anyone surprised by this?

Not surprising. Even that 69K is suspect, especially with large companies like HP threatening massive layoffs.

No, and the media can't cover this shit up any longer with their flowery rhetoric.

Oh they'll try. November is approaching too fast for them to do anything but a fast con job.

To be honest, I've seen the headlines and they are not hiding it AS much... Now it's more of "hey, it's a global thing not a national thing..."

Hence the con job. Heaven forbid they question the Administration's policy this close to elections.

Yes, I am positive that it is even worse than we think. Have we in this country ever before had to live through this much deception from the media? Are they getting paid by the government to say all this stuff?

There was an opinion piece in the local paper the other day that glorified Obama. It closed with the following statement: "Obama must win or this country is going to drown in a sea of debt." To me, it seems just the opposite.

Honestly, I don't think it makes a bit of difference one way or the other and hasn't for about 20 years. But that's another topic for an entirely different thread.

Reminds me of a few books I've read on espionage and what motivated moles in US and Soviet Union to turn against their country. There were two prominent reasons:

    1. Money -- which is not the case with our media.
    2. Ideology -- Which IS the case with our media.

Success rate was better with ideologues vs. opportunists.

What we have are Liberals coming out of Academia with a mindset. They go in to journalism to expose corporations and how Capitalism is a lie and how destructive it is. How CEO's are the bane of this society and on and on. When they intern at NYTimes or other media outlets, they are further brainwashed by the elite already there with the same mindset. By the time they start writing their own pieces, they are fully religious in their ideology as to what's best for this country. This mentality is not only needed to write skewed and biased pieces, it also eradicates any guilt in doing so -- because the Liberal mantra is that they are more intelligent than you are (think joseftu) and they know what's best for you.

It's a shame we've had to live through Jimmy Carter all over again. The more they demonize and overregulate industry and commerce, the worse it's going to get.

Hell, think Techie. His parting words were that he had nothing else to learn from us here, and so was taking his leave. He became absolutely convinced of his intellectual superiority, simply due to his limited college and innercity lifestyle. People who didn't think like him, who didn't share his values and his ideals for America, were stupid, plain and simple.

Good point. I tend to forget Matt because he didn't teach me anything except that he didn't learn anything.

You're thinking about the similarity between the Dems and the GOP? I can certainly see that.

Leon, VERY well said! I come across the patronizing attitude all the time. Talk about a royal PITA. Capitalism isn't perfect, but consider the alternative, which is downright scary. I know I'm not saying anything new, but every once in a while I have to get this out of my system to reduce the stress level.

Yes. Sort of. I'm saying that there is not a politician alive today, Democrat, Republican, or other, who stands a chance of getting elected into office that is in it "for the people". Not one.

I will NEVER forget Techie. I mentally put on my wellies whenever I encountered him because he dripped condescension left and right.

Oh, definitely, no question about it. I've complained about that on several occasions in the past. Service to others is now considered too old-fashioned. Never mind that it is a hallmark of a good leader.

No surprises here. At least not for this crowd.

I don't see anything happening for a long while (for the positive). Everyone is sitting on what will happen to PIIGS.
