View Full Version : Adopt a soldier
Anyone that is interested in conversing with some of the soldiers in Kuwait, or if you are interested in "adopting" a soldier which will allow you to correspond with them and also send some things they made need directly, you can do so via this site
Hugs to Kuwait (groups.msn.com/HugsToKuwaitAdoptASoldier)

I apologize for my extreme cynicism (but at least I can spell it.) I have no way of verifying these items even get to soldiers... therefor... I pass.
You don't send things or letters through someone... once you are verifed, you send and correspond directly with the soldier.
Not saying anyone has to do it...it's just out there for those that would like to participate with a soldier and don't know how.
When the Afghanistan thing (lol...thing?) started, I couldn't find out how to correspond with anyone there... I didn't know anyone that had been sent that didn't already have family sending letters.
And because of the anthrax scare, unless you had a person to send stuff directly, you were shit outta luck.
The woman and the volunteers running it are wives of soldiers. Her husband was in the Gulf war (I believe) and was killed.
Another thing I was notified about by the DOD was animals...
It never ocurred to me, and I don't know why, since mine are like my kids, that a lot of the singles getting shipped out have animals that they were all stressed out about leaving behind. The force has a program in place for people to "adopt" a pet until the person comes back.
Amazing the everyday things these people deal with that I didn't think about.
I apologize for my extreme cynicism (but at least I can spell it.) rofl spellcheck? rofl

Actually, will try this out and post some of the replies here, if I deem it not breaking privacy and/or endanger the missions.

Leon, I suspect that the troops would rather hear from Fiona, Violet, Aria, etc.-- any woman -- rather than a balding middle-aged man.
Yup, I suspect they didn't have me in mind for hugs either...
Aww, then slap on a wig, ethics. ;)
I'll check it out - I'd like to adopt a soldier ;)

Great, cause I can't join the group.. you have to have that msn passport thingamajig, which for some reason is not letting me register... I believe it has something to do with the troubles with my computer. But you can adopt without joining the "group". Via email or snail mail.

Hmm, last time I checked there were female troops deployed to the region and women in uniforms can be quite attractive as anyone who has seen Sam by her new car that Copz posted can attest ;)

Yes, Sam is lovely but was, I beleve, unarmed in the picture. But I am, little leery of women with guns.

That will not compensate for baldness.

Fiona- why would you not think this is genuine??

It's just a website. I dont see any reason to suspect it. I just also don't see how I can be sure it's genuine. Anyone can post a website and say they'll send money or food or things or letters to anyone. Who regulates it? I'd like to know. I'd love to hug a soldier (or two)
