Just an example of the importance of child safety seats, right?
Then, how did she get out of the seat, after the crash?

That was a good story. Every once in a while someone gets lucky.

I have two children, 19 months and 3 years old, and none of the car seats we have can be opened by the child. What would be the point of having one, if the kids can open them?

My kids are smarter than yourr kidsssssss... rofl just kidding. Seriously, it is my understanding, I can think of a dozen kids... Kids CAN open them... they are restrained, like a seat belt, in case of crash, not to prevent the ABILITY to get out. and the fact that your don't means you guys are great disciplinarians.... :)

The placement of the releases is under the bottom edge of the seats and requires a strong, direct-inward push to release the buckler. Little hands aren't that strong (my wife's hardly are!)

ahhhh those models. It is also my understanding that those models are created for those who WANT their children to be unable to reach it (perhaps?) I think maybe this is a choice. Although I'm not sure it's publicly declared. I see many child car seats still fasten between the legs. Anyhoo... I think, unfortunately, the powers that be of child seat creation haven't decided yet which angle is best... child restraint for safety or child restraint for forced restraint. Just thoughts. I'm rambling...

We've always looked at like with the viewpoint that if they can undo while the car is in motion, it's not a very safe seat.

I understnd this point of view... I however feel the restraint is more like a seat belt... Helpful if in an accident... but not meant to confine you indefinitely against your will... I do really understand what you are saying though- cool :)
