Foreign Ministry warns Israeli war talk fuels US anti-Semitism
By DAN IZENBERG

The Foreign Ministry has received reports from the US that the plethora of war predictions emanating from Israeli leaders is being sharply criticized by the US media, which accuse them of trying to goad the administration into war.

The ministry is also receiving reports of mounting anti-Semitism by elements claiming that the White House is being controlled by Jews, according to the report.

The latest Israeli war predictions were published Sunday, when the head of IDF Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Aharon Ze'evi (Farkash) told the cabinet he expected the US-led war on Iraq would begin next week. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz added that the war "is close at hand and will likely begin soon."

I must not be checking the right media. I have not seen any of this. What media does JP follow?

I haven't seen it either, and I have CNN on at the moment.

I think it's possible that the Foreign Ministry "warning" may just be a signal that it's not a good idea for the press in Israel to speculate roo much about the date for the beginning of the war. It's an internal security issue.

For example, Haaretz publishes a report today with the concluding paragraph:

"Ran Cohen, MK (Meretz) asked Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Defense Minister Mofaz yesterday to instruct the leaders of the IDF and the defense establishment to stop speculating on the timing of the war in Iraq. The conceited verbosity of these Israelis gives an impression that Israel and the Jewish people are behind this war, Sarid said."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Jim Moran, D-Virginia, is in hot water with Jewish groups for comments he made at a recent anti-war forum.

"If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this," Moran said at the forum in Reston, Virginia, outside Washington last Monday. "The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going and I think they should."

The leader of the Jewish Community Council of Washington criticized Moran for the remarks.

"The Jewish community is deeply offended," said Ronald Halber, executive director of the JCC, explaining that no one group has that much influence over U.S. foreign policy.

Sad to say, the ass is a Democrat. I guess he thinks Bush is a Jew.
