View Full Version : Bad Thing About Riding in the Country

I was on my way home from a friend's house last night, enjoying the ride, keeping my eyes out for critters, when I came up to a curve in the road.

Just as I cleared the curve, I hit the high beams and the first words out of my mouth were...

FUCK!!! DEER!!!!

Apparently a doe thought it was a good night to take her fawn for a walk. I hit the brakes, downshifted, and came to a stop about 10 feet short of the happy little family, who hadn't moved from the middle of the road yet. I turned the high beams off and hit the horn and they finally moved off, back into the woods.

I really hate that taste you get in your mouth when an adrenaline rush hits that fast LOL.

I'm just glad you saw them and were able to stop!

Yeah, that would've been a really shitty way to end the evening LOL.

I'm actually glad I was on the bike. Not sure I would've been able to stop the car in time.

I ALWAYS mount the deer whistles on my bikes. Don't know if they work as advertised, but the couple of times I haven't had them, I've come across the same scenario you experienced last night.

Edited for brevity. :haha:

HOLY CRAP! I'd need my thong changed after something like that.

My GW has them; the previous owner installed them.

A couple of weeks ago, when I was riding to Pittsburgh to see SteelerMatt graduate, I saw a doe on the side of the road, on I-70. Traffic whizzing by a 60-75 MPH. She's within the right-of-way, maybe 20 feet from the shoulder. She didn't even blink when I went by.

Heh, had it happen again Saturday night. On my own damn street even. Was only doing 15-20mph though, so no biggie.
