This looks like a very promising all electric comuter scooter (http://www.x-tremescooters.com/electric_mopeds/xm-3500li/xm-3500li.html).
Three stats to prove this is not a toy:
Range: 75+ Miles
Speed: 55+ MPH
Passenger/cargo capacity: 400lbs
With those stats this thing could be used as a viable daily commute vehicle for many people. Fast enough for highway, if not freeway, speeds. Enough range for most commutes. Toss in the fact this does not use gas at all and I bet they tempt a lot of people to give it a shot.
I could almost ride one of these back and forth to the office. If we lived closer or had flatter terrain I might even be tempted to try as it is we are too close to the theoretical maximum distance for a round trip with the route that would be required for staying below 60MPH, toss in the terrain and my weight and I just can't trust it can do it. But it sure would be nice, I have always had a soft spot for pure electric vehicles.
Of course they have a 110MPG (http://www.x-tremescooters.com/gas_mopeds/xm150/xm150.html) gas powered version....
