Isn't this just the 2008 version of the TMAX available in Europe (http://www.yamaha-motor.co.uk/products/scooters/maxi_scooter/tmax500.jsp) for years?
Why, yes it is. (http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/05/15/yamaha-t-max-coming-to-the-u-s/) :) Nothing new here except the gas crunch has reached our shores.

Don't need a scooter for that man. I got 50.7mpg this weekend :)

Is it really easier to get your leg up over that depression in the front of those things, or is that basically a useless trick that helps sell a scooter?
Where I work we use tricycles (pedal-powered), possibly a legacy from the Grumman days of our building. They were all girl's style, with very low frame members in the front, until a couple of years ago my then-supervisor decided his had to be macho and he ordered himself a boy's model, which added an 'upper' frame member that doesn't look any higher than the dip in many scooters. The problem is my leg doesn't bend enough to clear the upper frame member and my foot gets stuck, and apparently a lot of other people have the same problem because that bike is not very popular despite its being newer than many others. Bikes ordered since then are all girl's models, too.

Back to OP... anyone else pissed that now we will have some assholes trying to race us with these scooters?

Nope...because their top speeds aren't anywhere close to a real motorcycle.

To be a true scooter, the engine size can't go above 49cc. This allows you to ride one without a motorcycle endorsement on your license in most states. I wouldn't worry about someone trying to take you from street light to street light.

That TMax is a 500cc. Definitely have to have a full motorcycle license for it. Just don't have to learn how to do things like...shift lol.
IIRC, Honda's Silverwing has an even bigger engine than that.
And in answer to the MPG my bike gets...I've been getting 46-50mpg since I bought it. And I haven't been exactly easy on the throttle. The 50.7mpg I clocked in was mostly highway speed riding during the ABATE ride I was on Saturday.
