"It was just a freak thing," she said. "I don't know how I'll ever be able to deal with this."
No no no, it's NOT a freak thing. It's a moronic administration that has construction all over the place and doesn't have enough signs to warn people!
I've seen this for years while driving a friggin car.
Let's just excuse this as a "freak thing" because, hey, everyone knows Motorcycles are dangerous. :friggin: freaks.

I'm not sure I understand. Where exactly was the barrier in relation to the direction of travel? Did they run into the end of it? Too many damned questions and not nearly enough answers from the article.

I can't say without seeing it, but they do this a lot and you know the concrete dividers on the hgwy? They move those to block off some construction they wanted to stretch out (billable time) and just throw these barriers all over Manhattan (and the rest of the city).

See 'em all the time, but I'm at a loss as to why he would run into one. One thing you learn quickly is to never outrun your headlight. Unless this sucker was planted right smack dab in the middle of the road, I don't understand why he would hit it.

I agree. It COULD have been his fault, of course and at 1:30AM you don't do anything unnecessary. On top of the drunk asses out at that time you need a lot of room for error. I feel bad that the mother leaves a 3 yr old girl. That's insane.

Yep. At least they both went. I know far too many where the passenger was killed and the driver has to live with that for the rest of his life. Good friend of mine was run off the road many years ago. He made it through the fence fairly unscathed. His wife was decapitated.

Headed into NYC the other day on I-495 I noticed a sign at the city line:
Speed Limit 30 MPH unless otherwise posted.
Kinda hard to out drive your headlight at that speed, except in NY the standard seems to be 15 over (points on license increase dramatically) so in a 30 zone you'd expect traffic to go maybe 45.
