ROCKS!

That is all...

Ok ok, it's not all.

First time I did this, btw, and you know what? There was a disabled tractor trailer on one lane, tow truck for it in the other, and everyone was getting squeezed in to the third. People were pissed but not me and the rest of the crotch rocketeers! Man, if the weather was like this all the time this would be my commute. :P

Awesome!

What's it cost to park your bike for the day in Manhattan?

!

What's it cost to park your bike for the day in Manhattan?

Bastage jinxed ME!

It cost NOTHING but guess what Leon got? A friggin parking ticket because "I was too close to the hydrant". I REALLY wasn't. If my bike was a car no way in hell I would have got one. The bastard meter maid gave ALL three bikes that were parked there and they were even further than me from the hydrant.

Oh, it cost me $110 dollars to park in Manhattan so thanks for asking!:beat:

LOL.....sorry about that. :)

It's normally free to park the bike for the day on the side of the road? Must not be any meters down by you huh?

It's normally free to park the bike for the day on the side of the road? Must not be any meters down by you huh?None. This is Tribeca and Citigroup is LOVED by its workers because where we have our HQ trading buildings--it's all residential area and Manhattan Community College is a block away. So, yes, if you get in as early as I do, you can park for free. :) If not for the ticket, my entire expense for the commute is less than 2 dollars. :)

Btw, I saw still TOO many SUV's on the way in with one person in it. Guess the expense at the pump is not high enough!

A $2 commute is a good thing....if you don't park so close to those hydrants! ;)

Ya, still see lots of one passenger SUV's around here as well. But what's the person going to do? They probably still owe $30,000 on their $35,000 truck and it's got a trade in valve of about $4 right now because what dealer can sell it? The people are stuck, and should car pool, but that won't happen either.

I think gas will have to hit $6 a gallon before the majority of people will REALLY change their ways.

I started taking the bus a week ago and I love it. It is not an urban bus, it is a "Park & Ride" bus. It goes to a designated parking lot in the burbs, about 10 minutes from our house, and drops me off right in front of the buildign I work in. Cool thing is since I work for the transit authority it is FREE!!! And since it is a P&R bus it is clean with plush seats and no stinky homeless crackheads on it, like the urban ones.

Copz's truck gets about 17 mpg, so I take his truck to the P&R and he takes my car to work. This is a savings of about $50 a week for us. Which will only increase with gas prices.

Oh and this only takes me an extra 10-15 minutes a day. Other pluses I don't have to deal with traffic, Houston traffic is a real :tantrum: bitch. Also I just sit on the bus and watch movies on my protable DVD player.

Good for you Sam! That's enough savings for a nice dinner out every Friday night! :)

That's fantastic!!!! I am a big fan of mass transit and not for the foofoo green crap but for the savings and unclogging the roadways for supplies, food, and emergency vehicles.

Like I said, if I were to judge how this (high gas prices) is impacting New Yorkers by what I saw this morning, I would say none at all. Keep in mind this was between 6AM and 7AM, not even rush hours.

Detroit is the second worst city in the U.S. for commuters: http://www.mlive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/05/forbes_detroit_second_worst_ci.html

People I work with are starting to take the bus. One person told me that they have not rode a bus in over 20 years, but with gas prices being what they are, the bus seems to be a more viable option for them now. Many people I work with commute over an hour each way... taking the bus will be a real money saver for them. I live in the city and don't have to get on a highway to make it to work. Gas will have to reach $6/gallon before the bus becomes a cheaper option for me.

NYC here is contemplating on going with the double-decker buses soon.

COTA routes pretty much suck around here, if you don't work downtown. Most routes are spokes in a wheel; there are precious few ways to get from the southwest part of the city/suburbs to the northwest, for example.

There are no bus stops within 2 miles of my house.
