My Cat Meows at Me Day and Night

Well more night than day. Usually around 2 a.m. decides he wants to play. He'll yell outside my door, and then take off when I open it, unless I pet him and give him attention. He only does this for me, not my brother nor my parents. Any advice on getting him to stop? We've taken to putting him in the basement when he does this, but it doesn't have any effect.
