A television station in Caracas, Venezuela, has stopped broadcasting "The Simpsons" in a morning time slot the country's television authorities have determined that it is "inappropriate" for children. The country's television regulator announced that the show flouted regulations that prohibit "messages that go against the whole education of boys, girls and adolescents". It has been replaced by "Baywatch" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7338131.stm), the show that made the upper half of Pamela Anderson's body famous. Slow-motion running sequences featuring buxom lifeguards are apparently appropriate for Venezuelan children.

I wonder why they thought Baywatch was better for children than the Simpsons. The answer must be pretty darn interesting. :haha:

That's easy, Swampy. In my opinion, the Simpsons and other similar cartoons promote behavior which is rude and antisocial. Had there been similar programs when my children were growing up, I would never have permitted them to watch.

Agreed. I find it very funny, but not appropriate for kids.
Breasts, on the other hand, are a perfectly natural feature of the female anatomy; Americans have peculiar hangups about public displays of boobs, for some reason.

Guys, it's Baywatch though! It's not like they live on the island and are learning Life Saving techniques from that show! ;)

But there are great life lessons in Baywatch.
You know....like how it's great to see slow motion bouncing boobs in every other sequence.

I have to agree with Steve and Morg about the Simpsons.
Baywatch: Hawaii is probably a lot cheaper than the Simpsons.
Actually for children, there probably are lots of good life lessons on Baywatch.

The Simpsons is smart and funny. It's excellent television, and I watch it with my daughter several times a week.
Baywatch is garbage--idiotic plots, inane dialogue, with a plentiful helping of exploitation. (But the boobs are nice to watch)
I wouldn't ban (or forbid kids to watch) either one, but it's obvious why Simpsons is banned--it promotes critical thinking and a powerful questioning attitude.

I sometimes think that "The Simpsons," "King of the Hill" and other similar shows are intended for adults rather than children. I admit to watching both on occasion that nothing else is on and I'm too lazy to turn off the TV.
Actually I used to watch "Baywatch" with my bachelor friends when it first came on. We'd turn on the TV, turn off the sound, and put something like Pink Floyd on the stereo, and guzzle beer. That was a long time ago. I guzzle wine now. ;)
The Simpson's is some of the best writing ever on TV especially when you factor in how long it has been on. There is a bit of Homer in every man--even if someone doesn't want to admit it--and yeah that means you too boat boy.
Baywatch. Uh, great theme song. Did you know at its height it was the most popular global TV show on TV---yeah, global as in worldwide. Ah, American culture exported. :shake:
