Not to take away from the celebration of the day...:)

I'm seeing all kinds of variations on the simple wish "happy new year."

There's "Happy New Year's," "Happy New Years," and all kinds of differences in capitalization.

I guess that -s comes from the name of the holiday..."New Year's Day." (or "new year's resolutions"?).

How do you say it? Or write it? Is it "happy new year"? Or "Happy New Year's"? Or do you ask people "did you have a good New Years?"

(And I'm not even mentioning "Xmas"! :))

Just Happy New Year. Can't be Year's, since that's possessive, and New Years is plural.

If you're seeing it like "Happy New Year's", it's likely intended as "Happy New Year's Day", which would be correct if it were complete, as it is possessive.

IMHO :D It's Happy New Year or Happy New Year's Eve/Day

That's how I see it too.
