I'd say #1. You need a pause there.

Both are - the conventions have changed over the decades since I was an undergrad. But, last time I checked, #1 is correct, because the part after the "but" can be a full sentence. So, if the two parts before and after the "but" are full, then use the comma; otherwise no.

The same goes for "and".

I use #2, but, by default is a comma.

I was taught that only #1 is correct: you must use a comma between two sentences joined by a conjunction.

Another place commas are used would be between main clauses unless they are extremely short clauses. The comma comes before the conjunction (and, or, nor, but, yet, sometimes for) joining the main clauses in a compound sentence.

Error: Rabbits usually run when sensing danger but sometimes they freeze in place.
Correct: Rabbits usually run when sensing danger, but sometimes they freeze in place.

The first one is correct. We have two independent clauses here. They are joined by the coordinate conjunction but. A comma should precede the coordinate conjunction.

So.....

Also, attached is the drawing you requested.
OR
Also attached is the drawing you requested.

Are both correct?

Yes, both are correct, depending on your intended meaning.

The first sentence means "In addition [to whatever else you were covering in the rest of the paragraph], I am sending you the requested drawing."

The second sentence means that you have more than one item to attach. The drawing is just one of them.

I'll usually include a comma when what follows, as is the case in your example, is an independent clause.

If it's part of a complement in an inverted sentence pattern, you don't need the comma:

Seidinove is in Eye of the Tiger. Also on that guild's roster are Braz and Els.

I looked at this again and my first answer might be vague. I think that both usages can be correct. It just depends on the meaning that you want to convey. If you want to say:

In addition to the point that I made in the previous sentence, here's some additional information: I have attached the drawing that you requested -----> use a comma.

On the other hand, if you're simply using the adverb also to modify the adjectival past participle attached . e.g.: The drawing you requested is also attached, along with the three other other attachments we discussed -----> don't use a comma.

Isn't that more clear?:haha:
