Well that's great. I don't see it happening, but if it ever does, I hope it counts for those children who are already here as well. Universal healthcare and bonds for college. Wonder what she's gonna pull out of the hat next? :shake:
Is there no one alive anymore that remembers she was the one "appointed" to change healthcare when her husband was the Prez, and she couldn't do it? She really must believe these things will get her elected! LOL

Every baby born in America should receive money that can later be used to pay for college, Clinton told the crowd at the Congressional Black Caucus annual legislative conference in Washington on Friday.
"I like the idea of giving every baby born in America a $5,000 account that will grow over time, so when that young person turns 18, if they have finished high school they will be able to access it to go to college," Clinton said, calling it one way to give young people a chance to save money tax free.
Next in the news, Hillary comes up with another great idea! Free food for everyone!

Don't give her any ideas, Vio.

I think it should be retroactive to 1952.

So, do I understand this right, she proposed that every child born in America get a $5,000 $401K type of account, to be used for college tuitions and the like?
That's a great idea!
Our young are our most important asset, and now they'll ALL be able to afford college!
What is there not to like about this plan?
It sure makes ME feel all warm and noble!
Oh, wait a minute, has anyone checked the birth rates lately?
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/pubs/pubd/hestats/prelimbirths05/prelimbirths05.htm
The preliminary estimate of births in 2005, 4,140,419, increased 1 percent from 2004...
Lemme see now ... that's 4,140,419 babies x $5,000 = $20,702,095,000 (say 20$billion + inflation/year/every year/forever)?
That's quite a nice 'sounding' :friggin: proposal you've got there lady!
Now, please explain to me, a taxpayer, if it's not too much trouble, just how the HELL you propose we pay for it!
Awaiting your response.
Regards,
Steve

Your back-of-the-envelope calculation is only the tip of it, Joe. The economic implications are astounding and certain to result in massive inflation. I've been on the fence about Hilary but this astounding lack of understanding of basic economic matters pretty much seals the deal for me; I won't be considering any ticket with her on it.

LMAO right JFC! She's gonna do our kids so great with this one if she gets in there. Maybe she has a plan to cut out SS all together to help fund this insane idea of hers?
I've been onto her and her husband for years. They play on people's weakness' and tell them what they want to hear. The extremely poor who can't afford to pay for education themselves for their children, would love this kind of thing possibly. Then again the guaranteed student loans and grants are there to be had, so really there's little to worry about anymore there. Unless there's something I don't know about.
She's not gonna get anywhere with her universal health care bullshit. That buzz already came around and crashed hard with the Clinton's when Bill was in office. She was given the power to change things, to come up with a plan, and could do or did nothing. She's trying to act like she did something by talking these great stats of immunizations done under the Clinton administration and her Senate time due to her influence or power, whatever.
Pretty soon she's gonna pose in Playboy in a last resort attempt for popularity.

Thank you for that mental image.
Now, if you'll excuse me, my brain has a date with my cordless drill.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Where do you come up with these thoughts? Are you taking your meds? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

No kidding. I think she understands that it couldn't ever work, just a good sound bite. But what's worse, not understanding the impact of your decisions, or saying anything to get elected?

Well if they put her face on a playboy model's body, it might work? ;)
She will say anything to get elected. She's got to be feeling how close she is, but how far she is as well. Her still in the race has got to be driving her insane. This is going to get even more interesting as we approach the elections.

My vote is that one of the many talented people here should do just that and we'll see how it goes over, lol. She's such a pig. I CAN'T STAND that woman.

Have to figure costs and benefits. If the bonds would cost $20 billion a year, but return far more to the economy, then it's totally worthwhile.
As for how to pay for it, that's simple. We are now spending about $1.7 billion a week on the war in Iraq. In other words, what we're spending every 12 weeks on the war, right now, would cover the whole year of the bonds.

Yeah, right! Then we'll be teaching Arabic and the Koran with the bond monies!
Wouldn't it be easier for the government to make all the colleges and universities an extension of the current public school system? :geek:

Maybe.
How would that work out?

Now wouldn't that be nice Sarge! Free college in the state you live in, paid for by tax dollars as an extension of public school. Everyone gets to go! You'd think it would be more economical than 5 grand for every new baby born.
Joe, the Iraq war isn't going to go on forever. Babies on the other hand, are born all during the day, every day, for years and years and years. It will never stop.

Exactly--but we're paying for the Iraq war, and have been for a lot more than 12 weeks. If we can pay for that--many times more than the cost of the bonds--and it's not crippling us, we can certainly pay for the bonds.
And remember the main point--this is not just money thrown away, it's money that will have huge benefits for the economy and the society. It will never stop...and it will never stop paying us back, many-fold.
The Iraq war is a perfect example--because we're paying for it now and in the future, at a much higher rate than these bonds, and it doesn't have anywhere near the ongoing benefits for the economy that the bond plan would.
(why would Sarge's plan cost less than the bonds? That doesn't make any sense at all! And why would socializing higher education be a good idea in the eyes of those who think socializing medicine is such a bad idea?)
Personally, I think a plan that includes service would be a much better alternative than the bonds. We've heard it before, I didn't invent it, but it has a real potential to pay off for everyone.
A year of service--could be military, could be civilian--to be rewarded with free tuition, books, and fees at any public university in the country, for any student who has the grades to get in. I think that's really the best solution.

Semi socialized education as an option for those who can't afford it Joe. If you can afford it, you can go to a private college. Pretty much the same way medicaid works now with the people who qualify. They qualify, they have access to health care. Can't qualify, you're on your own.

I was just trying to think like a Liberal. Hillary already wants socialized, rather Universal Medicine, so I thought that Universal Education would be a good (Liberalist-leaning-toward-Socialist) idea, too! Just think, guys! Every American would have a fair chance at receiving higher education in the face of rising tuitions and the inflated incomes of professors!
(Where is that sarcasm button?);)

I'm just trying to get in touch with my Liberal side! Anyone who makes more money than me has an inflated salary. Anyone who makes less is poor and disadvantaged!
(I can get used to this Liberal way of thinking - free myself from rational thought and follow the whims of my emotions!)
