Another one that gets me... or two rather... are eminent (commonly misspelled, emminent) and imminent. I know perfectly well what they mean and how they should be used. But I have to stop and think EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! grrr

Eminent vs Imminent (http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:Yj1fFzKEVaUJ:www.grammartips.homestead.com/pairs3.html+eminent+vs+imminent&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a)

And yet one more: Compliment vs. Complement, and the related Complimentary vs. Complementary.

Compliment = flattery, to flatter.
Complement = to make complete, to add to "A" the opposite of "A", etc.

Ow Ow Ow! Mr. Kotter!

Here's one that really gets on my nerves when I hear it.

Capitol vs. Capital.

Capital, from the Latin "Capita" meaning "head" = A city where the seat of government is, national, regional, etc. A city distinguished by some outstanding attribute or famous fact related to it - e.g. "Dijon, France, is the world capital of mustard."

Also, a large sum of money, an important source of funds.

Capitol - a domed ceiling, a building covered with a dome. Originally, the Temple of Jupiter in Rome.

Wow. Excellent idea guys! My wife and I were just saying to each other, while riding home from camping yesterday, that we wanted to increase our vocabulary.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to keep up with GA recently, but this is one sub-forum I'll be keeping my eye on. Thank you!
