Edwards has called on fellow Democrats to oppose News Corp.'s purchase of the Dow Jones Co. and 'take the necessary steps to stop the merger' in a major step up of his previous criticism of Fox News Channel,' :In an e-mail to supporters [yesterday], the former North Carolina senator said continuing media consolidation "threatens the health of our democracy."
"News Corp.'s purchase of the Dow Jones Co. and The Wall Street Journal should be the last straw when it comes to media consolidation," said the e-mail.
"The basis of a strong democracy begins and ends with a strong, unbiased and fair media--all qualities which are pretty hard to subscribe to Fox News and News Corp. (Read his full statement here (http://johnedwards.com/news/press-releases/20070802-media-consolidation/).)
Wow... "threatens health of our democracy?" You know what REALLY threatens the health of our Democracy? Take a guess.

The most revealing part of his statements are that his speaking out against media consolidation and democrat-bashing are in the same press release. I mean, speak out about one or the other, don't make the opportunism so obvious.

This guy irks the heck out of me.

I've got two:

1. George W. Bush taking on greater and greater powers for the Executive Branch, often with strange interpretations to justify it.

2. Our two party system which has become more about winning control and sacking the opposition, instead of doing what's good for America.

Bingo!

He was #3 in the polls for Democrats? I think that moves him down a few notches to #8 or something there.

You know, it's not always about George Bush. ;)

My take on what really threatens our democracy is blood sucking lawyers makings hundreds of millions off of corporations while the plantiffs they leach off of make a pittance. Color me unimpressed with his rant.

Stio, the blood sucking lawyers threaten our economic health, but not our political health. (IMO)

I too am unimpressed with his rant, but I've been unimpressed with everything about Edwards, and actually unimpressed by all the candidates.

You must've been afforded the opportunity to speak to some NYC liberals about Fox News by now, Leon...they all think it's "State media" or something equally ridiculous. For a lot of them, this will make Edwards #1. :)
