Or at least his staff did, in a big way.

HT Horses Mouth (http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/horsesmouth/2007/05/rudy_snubs_farm.php)

I missed hearing about this (http://www.anamosaje.com/NewsArchive/2007/May/3/news.html#1) until I saw the cartoon, unfortunately.

Apparently the campaign office called, and wanted to use the VonSprecken farm for a campaign rally. The VonSprecken's said "Sure!" They started going through the motions to get ready: background checks, public safety work; local press announcements; get the place ready, etc.

The campaign office called a couple of days later asking about assets; the VonSpreckens said "We're just poor farmers, raising cattle on 80 acres."

Giuliani campaign staff member (for the moment) Tony Delgado then said, "I’m sorry, you aren’t worth a million dollars and he is campaigning on the Death Tax right now," so Giuliani wasn't going to come.

Nice. :l:

However, there's more to the story (http://www.timesrepublican.com/News/articles.asp?articleID=9536)....

Apparently when Rudy himself heard about the situation, he called the VonSpreckens personally, and talked for a while, then asked if he could come over and apologize in person. They said yes, he did, and he did.

Good recovery on Rudy's part, and I know this was likely all his staff's doing. But still.....

The more Rudy is involved the less I think he has a shot.

He may not have a shot, but you have to give him credit for coming out and spending two hours apologizing for a subordinate's gaffe. This ain't no Babs Boxer stuttering a "you misunderstand I didn't mean it that way" and such.

I do, but it's perception of why he had to apologize, not the fact that he did.

I don't know guys, being hyper-critical of every campaign move by both the Dems and Repubs is a yawner. Are stories like this really going to mean anything 16 months from now? I don't think so.
