Now there's some good news - if Venezuela (read, Chavez) doesn't want foreign oil companies, Peru does, (http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/calgarybusiness/story.html?id=90c9bf20-54f0-47ad-a664-2cf3102024e8&k=96516&p=1) and that's why it could lift itself out of poverty. :thumbsup:

It seems that South America is fracturing into two blocs - an anti-American one, led by Chavez, and a pro-American one, with Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. (http://economist.com/displayStory.cfm?story_id=7835902) These three countries have historical grievances with each other, notably over the border, but they're forming their own regional grouping to promote their economic development.
In fact,Peru's new president, Alan Garcia, wants Chile to join that first group to counterbalance Venezuela (read Chavez). I'm going to keep an eye on this part of the world. :thumbsup:
