Peru's President wants to find other uses for the coca leaf.

I want to legalize drugs, so I don't really care if his country grows coca. But I am wondering if the coca leaf can really be used for other things like herbal medicine (?) and cooking, as he's suggesting. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6196287.stm) I know the poppy seed is used to make poppy cake.
