And the conservative Prime Minister, John Howard, has said he will send more if needed. (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070410.wausiafghan0410/BNStory/International/home) That's a friend indeed.

I missed seeing this earlier Stanley, being away and a few other things.
Well it, Howard's troop decision, went down like a lead balloon here. But that's not too surprising. Always a controversial thing to do....sent troops or more of them to a war zone. I think we can all relate to that. Only time will tell the wisdom of Howard's decision. Right now he's in the hot seat and has to respond one way or the other to pressure from our allies. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

True. But, I have to give him credit for doing something that is extremely unpopular. Not too many politicians out there that would risk doing such a thing.

He does have courage - he or a member of his cabinet apparently said that, if anyone wanted Sharia law, then Australia was not the country for them.:clap::clap:

I agree with you both that Howard showed sufficient belief in his convictions to do what he thinks needs to be done. He does have a history of not being afraid to make unpopular policy decisions and acknowledges them as such to the public. And I respect him for that as do a lot of others here that don't necessarily classify as members of his fan club.
