Or I should say, "drive a stake in her chances, she's finished."
Half of all voting age Americans would not vote for Hillary if she won the nomination. (http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/fifty-percent-of-americans-would-not-vote-for-clinton-2007-03-27.html)
I've mentioned this before, but some here refuse to believe it's true, too many people in this country hate this woman and enough dislike her personally that she can't get enough votes to ever win.
Low positves numbers are one thing, and they can be overcome with a smart campaign, but high negatives are a death knell.
Frankly at this point, the only chance for the Dems is to nominate Obama.

I fail to see how she thinks she can even have a chance. I think she should run and get the nomination, though. ;)

Yes, it's actually even worse than I wrote above. The most likey age group to vote is our senior citizens, and of those age 62 and older, fully 69% would not vote for her.

Hillary will do well in the primary, the extreme edge of her party may well have enough numbers to get her the nomination. Her problem comes in the general election. If the Republicans nominate a candidate that is anywhere near the 'center', Hillary will lose big time!

I agree, and I think she will win the nomination but there's a long ways to go yet.

I think she will get the nod as well. I would have liked Obama more, a lot more, but I doubt we will see him. Hillary is shrewed and her fund raising alone should be able to buy her way in.
She definitely HAS a chance of getting to be a President. If she is the Dems hope and gets to win the Primary, it's Republicans' race to lose at that point.
She has little chance of getting the nomination and even less chance of being elected president if nominated. She is never going to overall get any more popular than she is now.
When the real battles start and the skeletons in the closets and bodies in the backyard either get brought out or alluded to she will self-destruct. As the accusations come up watch as she slowly goes from the self-assured intelligent Senator from New York to a frothing at the mouth trapped in the corner doomed political animal. She will become a shrill. I would not be the least surprised to see events unfold that eventually she drops out of the race before the convention.

Yep, a year and a half is a long time. Nominate someone characterized just like how Bush is and most any Democrat will win. I don't think that will happen, most Republicans are not thrilled with how Bush has governed. I think right now the weakest candidate on the Republican side is McCain. He's one "co-sponsored with Kennedy" bill away from losing any support he has as it is. Throw in one of his usual blowups and he's toast. Other than that scenario, the Dems need a more palatable choice than Hillary.

I bet a research of the archive would show I said it first. :)

I only keep track of what I say around here, and I have a hard enough time doing that.

It's the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy™ I tell you!
I agree with you...one mention of Whitewater, FBI files, Travelgate, etc. and she'll be done for.

But, as Stanley commented:

A bit subtle of Stanley, but I truly believe that if the Democratic Party really backs Ms Hillary for President, the voters of this country will be, once again :tantrum:, forced to vote for whatever <i>lesser-of-the-evil</i> goat the Republican Party comes up with.:shake:
This isn't sad or unfortunate, it's simply pathetic!
These are the best of the best, to lead this great nation?
These are the best the Political Partys can come up with?
WHEW!
(or rather, PHEW!)
Should be entertaining though, eh?

Now Joe, you know better than that. These are the most malleable after they've been bought which the political parties can come up with.

Yea, but what percent of voters do you think truly understand, or even suspect, that?
I'd guess less than 5%.
And THAT'S sad.
Because it just saddens me that, in this great democracy (or representative republic ;)) people can be be so gullible.
I mean I see the demonstrations on the news!
Hundreds, if not thousands, of people CHANTING their undying support of some hack politician or other, apparently just for the hell of it.
I just think to myself; 'What if all these folks just stood back and waited to hear EXACTLY how this person would represent us common folks, and work to resolve the issues of the day!'
EXACTLY HOW!!!!!
There would be no media events, or baloney staged gatherings of 'supporters'.
There would be no need for a $billion dollars to attempt to win!
There would just be folks staying the hell home, working for a living, UNTIL a candidate said something intellegent and meaningfull enough to get our attention!
God, I'm so tired of the bullshit!
And I regret this post has turned into a rant about my disgusted opinion regarding our disgusting state of politics.
I had good intentions when I started typing, but, I went downhill the more I thought about our possible choices next year.:shake:

I wonder who the Republican front runner is - the media seems focused on Hillary and Obama and, to a lesser extent, Edwards, but no one seems to talk of who would be the front runner for the Republicans.

I'll just plop this at the bottom of all her bad news. This one is a biggie. Most of you know that the campaign finance reports were due in yesterday, and while Hillary Clinton came out on top in total money, that's the only good news she has. Why?
Well, she trailed Barack Obama in money raised specifically for the primary campaign, and the WP notes (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/15/AR2007041500522.html?hpid=topnews) that Obama seems to have far more donors who have not yet "maxed out" their contribution amounts. Clinton was also helped by a $10 million transfer from her Senate campaign account.
