And as far as fundraising (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,261020,00.html), Hillary is kicking his ass. Clinton's weekend fundraiser in LA raised $2.6 million at the event with guests like Barbra Streisand, Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson. The take was twice what Barack Obama made in his far more star-studded Hollywood fundraiser.

What's really sick is the analysts are saying that our next President will be our first Billion dollar President. Meaning, it will take $1 Billion dollars to win the office.
That's just sick!

Win? You mean buy the office.

Yep, that's an absolutely accurate correction, unfortunately.

I would disagree - the US is a big country, with the largest economy on Earth. Winning the right to govern this superpower would necessarily take a lot of money.
Think big, man.

You actually think it's OK to waste that kind of money winning an election? You don't see that with that much money invested, people are going to want something back from the person they got elected?
Let's look at this from another, more capitalist free market point of view. Would you invest $1 billion dollars to get a return of $400,000 a year?
Didn't think so, so obviously these donors are looking for much more as well.

When it comes to President, isn't the giving more about ideology rather than specific perks (except maybe a stay in the Lincoln bedroom)?

I'm sure that's some of it, but it's also about supporting the person you think will pass or initiate legislation that will benefit you.

A billion would not justify $400,000 a year, but the donors get the benefit of seeing their agenda put into place if their candidate wins. Whether that's worth a billion would be up to them.
