Antonio Ortiz Mena, who as Mexico’s finance minister in the 1960s was the architect of a period of remarkable growth known as the “Mexican miracle,” died on Monday. He was 99. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/16/business/worldbusiness/16mena.html?ref=worldbusiness)
I was skeptical of the opening paragraph until I saw the numbers - 3.4 % annual growth in per-capital income and 6% growth annual economic growth, and inflation less than 3%. And this while population growth was double what it is today. It just shows that Mexico had potential and still has potential.
