“The United States empire is on its way down and it will be finished in the near future, inshallah."

(Insallah is Arabic for "God willing.")

A Muslim leader?
An Islamic cleric?
A terrorist?

None of the above. It was Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,214709,00.html) in his address to the U.N. General Assembly. He is campaigning for a rotating seat on the U.N. Security Council. It seems he has allies with Iran, Syria and Cuba - among the most bitter US adversaries.

I suppose its only a matter of time before Venezuela becomes an Islamo-Socialist State. ;)

Actually, when I read the transcripts of the speeches by Chavez and the Iranian Prez, I thought it sounded suspicious. I think they're using the same speech writers as John Kerry and Harry Reid.

Chavez also called Bush the Devil.

As Leno said last night, "Only we can make fun of our President. Not other countries". :)

Wow...even Nancy Pelosi took President Bush's side:

"Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern day Simon Bolivar but all he is an everyday thug," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said at a news conference, referring to Chavez' comments in a U.N. General Assembly speech on Wednesday.

"Hugo Chavez abused the privilege that he had, speaking at the
United Nations," said Pelosi, a frequent Bush critic. "He demeaned himself and he demeaned Venezuela." (source (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060921/pl_nm/venezuela_usa_spat_dc))

I guess Leno's joke had a bit of truth to it. Especially if Pelosi, of all people, is offended at Bush being called a name. :)

Actually, I think it's embarrassment on the part of Pelosi and Rangle. It has to be disconcerting to hear your own talking points coming from a couple of nutters like Chavez and Ahmadinejad.

The important thing-- to me-- here is that they did the right thing, and they deserve praise for it.
