I am ready to upgrade from my stinky kodak dx3700 to something more robust, with more features, something I can grow with.

After weeks and weeks of research, I've decided that perhaps the Olympus 5050 zoom is the camera for me.

Here's a review of it: http://wrotniak.net/photo/c5050/c5050-rev.html

It's being compared to the E-20 in a positive way - and it's in my price range (I can get it online for 650, not the 800 BB's wants for it). So, any thoughts?

I'm discovering I've got a growing passion for photography, and digital seems to be my medium - i suck at film for some reason. I think this camera will be IT for me until Fovean x3 technology reaches a more reasonable $$$-wise (and more useful) level.

I'd still go with the CoolPix 5000 or 6000. :)

I still say Powershot G3 is the way to go if you can afford it...

Yah been to dpreview and others, and dpreview still doesn't have an official review up :(

Niether does <a href="http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/c5050.html">Steve's Digicams</a>, have a final review, but from the looks of the camera features looks like it does most of what anyone would need. It would be nice if there were some photo examples you could take a look at somewhere, but there doesn't seem to be.

Yah, it'll be a while before I actually take the plunge and buy this camera. I have a real problem buying things like this - I can't accept the fact it's several hundred dollars :( hehe Hopefully I make a purchase by end of this month or next month.

So far it's looking like the camera for me. I've seen some sample shots, you can view them here:

so far, they seem really nice. I've read you have to do a lot of tweaking to get the pictures just right, but I figured you would have to with any camera anyway, right?

I have an old Kodak DC4800 and seems the more I tweak the more I screw the pictures up, so have gone back to automatic mode.

;) Valkyre's requirements were zoom and marco. I don't believe in 'digital' zoom (I can do that in Photochop and what counts is getting the most data onto the ccd) so I looked for the best glass I could afford. Her Fuji has a 6:1 optical zoom w/marco focusing. The 1600x1200 resolution of the 2 Megapixels works out to 10 2/3" x 8" at 150 dpi which is fine enough for me.

I wish my Sony had a higher res - but I do love love the zoom - it's a 16x

I'm going to hang onto it until I get a better one as a gift. It could be awhile - I think I'm getting a new pc for xmas already. :)

Misu my dear,

http://electronics.cnet.com/electronics/0-1429209.html?tag=dir

Ive almost always found CNET editors to be right on. Great site. The user reviews are also very helpful.

Also, of all places, check and see if AMAZON offers a product your interested in to see more user reviews - sometimes very helpful.

SWEET!!!!! that is one awesome camera Misu..I like the way it looks (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0208/02081901olyc5050z.asp) too. I mean this thing is a 5M pix camera....wow...
and I like the tilt lcd screen too..

I checked the reviews, but they seem to mostly be from users...which is ok because sometimes they are the best reviewers...hehehehheeh

Nervous about spending the cash???? just do it and don't look back. If you have gone so far as checking it out for reviews and all..Then your pretty interested in it...

Just do it and don't look back...heheheheh

I have Sony DSC s70.. and will be looking for something new also..This one will definitely be on my check it out list...hehehehehe
