In the northern half, we remember the story of Nixon saying that Japan was America's biggest trading partner, when Canada was actually that. And, as far as I know, Japan never replaced Canada in that role. Now, however, China has done that, just as it had replaced Mexico as the No. 2 trading partner. (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20050915.wxrexport15/BNStory/Business/) Unlike the Mexicans, I'm not worried, because Canadian goods and services do not compete with China's, though China's do compete with Mexico's.
But I'm concerned as to how this could be a sea change in the world. And, if it crashes, it might bring bring a cold chill to the world, including the US.
